Permesso renewal deadline calculator (90-day rule, 2026)
Since 22 May 2026 the renewal of a permesso di soggiorno must be requested at least 90 days before it expires (D.Lgs. 286/1998, art. 5, as amended by D.Lgs. 83/2026). Enter the expiry date printed on your card.
How the dates are calculated
- Start gathering documents: 120 days before expiry. This is our suggestion, not a legal deadline.
- File the postal kit by: 90 days before expiry. This is the legal rule since 22 May 2026.
- Expulsion risk: if a permit has been expired for more than 60 days and no renewal was requested, the law allows expulsion (art. 13). Do not get close to this date.
Filing later than 90 days before expiry is not automatically fatal, but file as soon as you can. If your permit has already expired, speak to a Patronato or an immigration lawyer before acting. Full explanation: the new 90-day rule.
This calculator is for non-EU citizens renewing an ordinary permesso through the postal kit. It does not cover asylum or protection cases handled directly by the Questura. Sources: D.Lgs. 286/1998 arts. 5 and 13 on normattiva.it, as amended by D.Lgs. 83/2026. Checked October 2026.
